Long before lash serums arrived, our mothers and khalas had one answer for thin lashes and patchy brows: arandi ka tel. Using castor oil for eyelashes is still one of the most searched beauty tips in Pakistan, and for good reason. It is simple, affordable and easy to fit into a night routine.

But the eye area is delicate, and a thick oil used carelessly can end up where it should not. This guide shows you the clean, safe way to apply castor oil to lashes and brows, and how to use the same bottle for dry hair ends.

Why castor oil is a favourite for lashes and brows

Castor oil is a thick, glossy oil made from the seeds of the castor plant. Its heavy texture coats each lash and brow hair, which makes them look darker, glossier and more defined. Many people like that conditioned feel and say their lashes seem less brittle with regular use.

Our Pure Castor Oil (Arandi ka Tel) 30ml carries the label line “Eye Lashes Growth Enhancer”. It comes in an amber glass dropper bottle, which makes it easy to take just one drop at a time.

Be realistic: lashes and brows grow in slow cycles, so give any routine at least six to eight weeks. Castor oil may help them look fuller and feel softer, but it is not a medicine, and results differ from person to person.

The spoolie method: step by step

A clean spoolie (the small brush from a mascara) is the safest tool. Buy a new disposable one or wash an old mascara wand thoroughly with soap and warm water and let it dry completely.

For eyelashes

  • Remove all makeup, especially mascara and kajal, and wash your face. Lashes should be clean and dry.
  • Put one drop of castor oil on the back of your hand, not straight onto the spoolie.
  • Touch the spoolie to the drop. Then wipe it lightly on a tissue so it is only lightly coated.
  • Look down and brush gently from the middle of the upper lashes to the tips. Do not go near the waterline.
  • Use even less on the lower lashes, or skip them.
  • Never put oil inside the eye. If you blink and feel it inside, rinse with clean water.

For eyebrows

  • Take a little more oil on the spoolie than for lashes.
  • Brush against the direction of growth first so the oil reaches the skin, then brush back into shape.
  • Wipe away any oil that runs towards the eyes.
  • Leave it on overnight and wash your face in the morning.

Use it once a night, before bed, so the oil has hours to sit. Sleep on your back if you can, and change your pillowcase often.

Castor oil for hair ends and dry hair

The same bottle works beyond your face. Castor oil’s thickness makes it good for sealing dry, split-looking ends, especially in winter or if you straighten your hair often.

Castor oil can be hard to wash out, so shampoo twice and follow with a conditioner like the Doctor Herbal Hair Conditioner on the lengths. Rosemary is a strong essential oil, so never put it near your eyes or use it on lashes.

Castor oil and other oils compared

Here is how castor oil fits with the other oils people often ask us about. Prices update live.

Some people like to mix one drop of Vitamin E Oil into castor oil for their brows. Keep any mix simple, and never add essential oils like rosemary, tea tree or peppermint to anything you use near the eyes.

Safety around the eyes

  • Patch test first: put a little castor oil behind your ear or on your inner arm and wait 24 hours.
  • Use only a tiny amount. More oil does not mean better results; it just runs into the eyes.
  • Never apply inside the eye or on the waterline.
  • Stop at once if you feel stinging, see redness or swelling, or your eyes water a lot.
  • Do not use it if you have an eye infection, a stye, or have had recent eye surgery.
  • Contact lens wearers: remove lenses first and only put them back after washing your face.
  • Use a clean spoolie every time and never share it.
  • Do not swallow castor oil from this bottle; it is for external use.

If redness or irritation does not settle, see a doctor. Please also consult your doctor before using any oil if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on medication, have a health condition, or want to use it on a child.

Frequently asked questions

How long does castor oil take to show on eyelashes?

Lashes grow in slow cycles, so give it at least six to eight weeks of nightly use. Many people notice glossier, darker-looking lashes sooner because the oil coats each hair.

Can castor oil go in my eyes?

It should not. Use a tiny amount on a clean spoolie, brush from the middle of the lashes to the tips, and stay away from the waterline. If it gets in, rinse with clean water, and see a doctor if irritation continues.

Can I use castor oil on my eyebrows every day?

Yes, once a night is enough for most people. Brush it through clean brows before bed and wash your face in the morning.

Can I mix rosemary oil with castor oil for eyelashes?

No. Rosemary is a strong essential oil and should never be used near the eyes. Use castor oil on its own for lashes. Rosemary and castor together are for scalp massage only.

Is castor oil good for hair ends?

Many people like it for dry ends. Rub 2–3 drops between your palms and smooth over the ends. For the scalp, mix it with a lighter oil such as argan or jojoba so it washes out easily.
